T J Bateson @ Tacit

T J Bateson @ TacitTuesday, 19 January 2010

Dear Diary,

Another Midsumma exhibition has kicked off on the same night north of the city.

At the Tacit Contemporary Art in Abbotsford, T J Bateson continues the exploration of his own body (as been his practice for a number of years). The exhibition opens with Veiled in Plain Sight, which are the most straightforward works on display, being his own self-portraits in the nude. Veil and Pinned Veil series of 3D render digital prints are by far more interesting, innovative and inventive by comparison (and it’s a pity I haven’t secured an image of these works). They are essentially photographs of intricately patterned curtains, swaying in a gentle breeze. However, upon a closer examination, one realises that the patterns have been created from miniscule repetitions of Bateson’s own nude full-length self-portraits.
